9 Tips to Stay Healthy in Old Age

It is undeniable that as we age, our physical strength decreases. We are also increasingly susceptible to various types of degenerative diseases and other diseases due to decreased immunity.

There are various factors that affect our health in old age, one of which is the lifestyle that we have from a young age. There is an old saying that if we sow goodness, we will reap goodness. This also applies to health. If from a young age we adopt a healthy lifestyle, it is not impossible for us to stay healthy when we enter old age.

Some things to be done so that we stay healthy when we are old include the following.

  1. Maintain a good diet

As we age, our nutritional needs change too. For that we need to adjust the diet so that the nutritional needs of the elderly are still met. When entering old age, we should eat foods that are low in sugar, eat lots of vegetables and fruit, consume enough of water, and reduce food portions.

  1. Doing light exercise

Moderate exercise, such as walking, has many benefits for the elderly. Walking can help boost the immune system, strengthen bones, improve circulation and blood pressure, and prevent symptoms of varicose veins.

Not only increasing knowledge, reading has many benefits. With age, a person’s memory may decline. Reading is one of the efforts to hone and reduce the risk of memory loss. Reading is a form of brain exercise that improves brain work.

  1. Get enough rest

Meet the need for rest. Adequate rest has many benefits, such as maintaining weight, maintaining mood, keeping the body fit, and so on. Avoid staying up late and doing less important activities at night. The ideal sleep time of approximately 7-8 hours / day must at least be fulfilled because sleep is the time when the body’s cells repair themselves.

 

  1. Manage stress well

A healthy body begins with a healthy mind. The ability to manage stress that everyone should have because stress will affect many things, including the immune system. People who are under stress have a weakened immune system and are more susceptible to disease.

  1. Maintain weight

Maintaining an ideal body weight is something that should be considered. Because, if you are overweight or obese, the body will be susceptible to several types of diseases.

Practicing balance can reduce the risk of injury and falls in old age.

  1. Do not consume alcohol and cigarettes

Smoking and drinking alcohol is usually a package of habits that are detrimental to health. Alcohol can cause blood pressure lowering disorders, and hypertension. Likewise, cigarettes, the toxins contained in cigarettes can damage all organs of the body, from the brain, heart, to vital organs.

  1. Do many useful activities

Many activities can help the elderly keep the body from the threat of disease and decreased body functions.
