Daun Sirih, Your Natural Mouthwash

Bad breath makes a person feel insecure. It also disturbs others talking to him/her. According to some literature, causes of bad breath are dry mouth, digestive tract disorders, sinusitis, and several other health problems. In addition, a lack of oral hygiene also contributes to the cause of bad breath. There are ways to get rid of bad breath problems naturally, using daun sirih (betel leaves) is one of them.

For generations, daun sirih is regarded to be effective in get riding of breath problems. As quoted by  lifestyle.kompas.com, research conducted by IPB supports the claim,  as it has natural antioxidants and anti-bacterial effects. From the results of other studies published in the American Journal of Ethnomedicine, betel leaves found having essential oils which can bind to anaerobic bacteria that cause bad breath.

For the purpose, find 4 to 6 daun sirih. Put them in hot water for about 10 minutes. Then strain it and use it to rinse your mouth every night before going to bed. During the rinsing process, the daun sirih will work to get rid of the bacteria in our mouths.

Along with the treatment, be sure to maintain your oral hygiene. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, clean the tongue using a tongue cleaner, and use dental floss. It is the accumulation of plaque and food debris that cause excess bacteria leading to bad breath problem.
