Jamupedia’s Kaleidoscope of 2024

2024 was a busy year for Jamupedia. By the end of 2023, UNESCO had named jamu a World Intangible Cultural Heritage. In 2024, Jamupedia started working on several plans to preserve jamu. The institution worked with several other groups and organizations. Here is a list of the activities that Jamupedia conducted in 2024:
- Hosting a talk show with Awesome Speakers
On February 25, 2024, there was a talk show with the theme “Adaptive Strategy of Culture and Tradition.” It took place at Cinema Hall Kulonuwun Kopi (Saka Omah Sinten). Four awesome speakers presented at the event: KGPAA Mangkunegara X, Woro Mustiko, Erwin J Skripsiadi, and Muhammad Aprianto. At the end of the event, there was a screening of a music video from Acaraki called “Shadow of The Light.” Acaraki was one of the sponsors of the event.
- Focus Group Discussion for Strategic Plan Preparation
A Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was conducted as a follow-up to the designation of jamu as UNESCO ICH. This designation was not the end of their endeavors; instead, it was the beginning for them to develop a Strategic Plan for jamu preservation in the future. Taking the theme “Jamu Mendunia Ayo Rawat Bersama,” this FGD was a means for them to make future plans, both for internal organizations and jamu preservation in general.
- Workshop on Jamu Nusantara Directory
From April 22-26, 2024, Jamupedia held a workshop titled “Directory Jamu Nusantara as UNESCO Good Safeguarding Practice.” The event took place at the Natahati Meeting Room, JW Naungan Hotel & Villas and presented eight speakers with expertise in their fields.
- Historigraphy of Jamu and Wellness Culture Indonesia, presented by Prof. Dr. Warto, M. Hum (Expert in History, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Sebelas Maret University Surakarta).
- Mapping the ICH-03 UNESCO Good Safeguarding Practice, presented by Drs. Harry Waluyo, M.Hum (The Global Network of Facilitators of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Herritage).
- Jamu, Indonesian Green Gold -Jamu’s Contribution to the World, presented by Prof. Dr. Ir. Bernard T. Widjaja, MM (Author of The Tale of Jamu: The Green Gold of Indonesia)
- Understanding UNESCO Convention 2003 Global Framework, presented by Angga Conni Saputra (UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Coordinator Jakarta)
- Patterns of Formal Jamu Teaching in the Surakarta Poltekkes Jamu Department,presented by Apt. Pramita Yuli Pratiwi, M.Sc (Head of D3 Jamu Department of Surakarta Poltekkes)
- Jamu, Local Wisdom and Ethnomedicine in Indonesia, presented by Apt. Fajar Prasetya, S.Farm, M.Si, Ph.D (Author of Dasar Farmakologi, Kimia Medisinal, dan Jamulogi)
- Informal Jamu Teaching Patterns in Acaraki Jamu Class (Pioneer of Jamu Revitalization and Jamu Fusion), presented by Wasista Arif from Kafe Jamu Acaraki.
- Oral Tradition and Patterns of Jamu Transmission, presented by Rendra Agusta, S.S, M.Sos (Cultural Activist and Founder of Sraddha Insitute)
- Workshop with Jamu Community and Indonesian Literacy Activists
In May 2024, Jamupedia held an encyclopedia writing workshop with the theme “Building a Collaborative Encyclopedia of Jamu Nusantara as Part of the UNESCO ICH Action Plan.” This workshop presented speakers involved in the world of literacy, namely Ferial Pondrafi (editor and writer), Wahyu Untara (encyclopedia writer and translator), and Erwin J Skripsiadi (founder of Jamupedia, encyclopedia writer, and research team member for the nomination of Jamu as UNESCO ICH). The event was held at Solia Hotel Yosodipuro and at Poltekkes Surakarta.
- It’s fun! Jamupedia Introduces Jamu Through Jamu Goes To School
From June to July 2024, Jamupedia organized the Jamu Goes To School program to introduce jamu to elementary school children. This program aimed to introduce and foster a love for the jamu wellness culture among elementary school children in Sukoharjo, and it was held at SDN Gayam 01 Sukoharjo, SDN Jombor 02 Sukoharjo, MIN 01 Sukoharjo, and MIN 02 Sukoharjo.
The event was packed with fun and excitement. There were several booths presented, including the jamu storytelling booth, the jamu digital game booth, the jamu ingredient identification card game booth, and the jamu drinking booth.
- National Seminar
On June 12, 2024 Jamupedia held a national seminar with the theme “Strategies for the Preservation and Development of Cultural Heritage in the Modern Era”. The event took place at Solia Hotel Yosodipuro, this seminar presented 3 speakers with different points of view.
- The Role of Pura Mangkunegara in Cultural Preservation and Development, presented by KGPAA Mangkunegaran X (Pengageng Mangkunegaran)
- How is the Development and Preservation of Culture After the Designation of Intangible Cultural Heritage?, presented by Dr. Uswatun Hasanah, S.Pd, M.Pd (Head of Education and Culture Office of Central Java Province)
- Cultural Revitalization and Adaptation Strategies in the Modern Era, presented by Jony Yuwono (Chairman of the Indonesian Jamu Entrepreneurs Association and Founder of Acaraki Jamu)
- Comic Release About Jamu
On November 08, 2024 Jamupedia released a digital jamu comic featuring an interesting story. This comic is a means of education about the history and philosophy of jamu. Jamu comics from jamupedia can be downloaded on the jamupedia.com page by clicking on the banner.
