Wedang Sarabba, a Makassar Signature Drink

The island of Java has wedang jahe, wedang ronde, wedang asle, wedang bandrek, and various other wedang (hot drinks). However, not many Javanese people are familiar with wedang sarabba. Wedang sarabba is a traditional Makassar drink.

Wedang sarabba is quite famous in Makassar. Because, the wedang is widely drunk as a warm drink. In addition, wedang sarabba is also believed to be good for your body’s health, especially for mothers who have just given birth. Wedang Sarabba helps remove darah kotor (dirty blood) after giving birth.

Similar to wedang jahe and other types of wedang in Java, wedang sarabba is also made from several different spices. The difference with wedang jahe is the addition of sweetened condensed milk or creamer in wedang sarabba.

ingredient:

• 1 Ginger
• 1 stick Lemongrass
• 5 cloves
• 3 cm Cinnamon
• 1 piece of bunga Lawang (Star Anise, Illicium Verum)
• 1 cup water
• 3 tbsp condensed milk
• Palm sugar to taste
• Salt to taste

How to make:

1. Clean all ingredients
2. Grill ginger and peeled
3. Blender ginger, palm sugar, salt, condensed milk, and water (blender until smooth)
4. Boil the blend
5. Strain and wait until cool to serve
