Most of the people think that the jamu cabe puyang is made from chilies. It is true that this jamu is made from chilies, but the chili in question is not the spice chili which is often used to make sambal (chili sauce). The chili for this jamu is cabai Jawa (Javanese chili, Piper retrofractum) or commonly known as cabai jamu (herbal chili). The taste is a little spicy as the name implies.

The benefits of cabe puyang are not inferior to other herbs. This jamu can improve digestion, reduce fatigue and soreness, maintain healthy skin, relieve tooth pain, and increase appetite.

  • 1 ounce of dried cabai Jawa
  • ½ kg wet Puyang/lempuyang (bitter ginger, Zingiber zerumbet)
  • ½ ounce temulawak (Java ginger, Curcuma zanthorrhiza )
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ½ lt warm water

How to make:

  1. Wash all ingredients clean
  2. Mash until smooth
  3. Add salt and make sure it’s mixed
  4. Enter the mash into the water then filter the water for consumption
