Wedang uwuh is one of the most-loved wedang by the community. The proof is that this hot drink is available in many places, from roadside stalls, weddings, to contemporary cafes. Wedang uwuh is not only enjoyed by the elderly, young children drink it as well. Uwuh in Javanese means garbage. Wedang uwuh which indeed looks like garbage stuffed into a glass is good for our bodies. This drink contains various substances, ranging from iron, vitamin B1, to polyphenols.

the mixture of spices in wedang uwuh such as ginger, lemongrass, cloves, and others are effective as an anti-inflammatory in our body cells. In addition, the anti-oxidants and other minerals can activate enzymes to ward off free radicals. Wedang uwuh is easy to make. The ingredients are widely available. And here’s how you make it.

ingredients:

  • 10-12 shaving of kayu secang (sappan wood)
  • 1 stick lemongrass
  • 2 pieces cardamom
  • 3 cloves
  • 3 cm cinnamon
  • 1 ginger
  • 2 pieces lime leaves
  • 80-100 g rock sugar (as required)
  • 1200 ml water

How to make:

  1. wash all ingredients
  2. boil water
  3. add all ingredients except rock sugar
  4. Boil for about 5 minutes, until it turns red
  5. add rock sugar, and stir until dissolved
  6. turn off the stove, and pour the water into the glass
  7. Wedang uwuh is ready to be enjoyed
